Description
Sheep Mountain is a very small community
of people who prefer to live without the "hustle and bustle" of
everyday life. There are no stop signs, side streets or stores;
just a smattering of mail boxes on the edge of the Glenn Highway -- the only highway in and out of Alaska. Recently, this streach of highway was made a National Scenic Byway.

Located 60 miles North of Palmer, the
Sheep Mountain area is probably best known for its gorgeous
views, wild-life viewing, and hi-class accommodations. It is
actually called Sheep Mountain because of the Dall Sheep
Preserve adjacent to the road, from which dozens of Dall Sheep
can be viewed daily. Truly this is a spectacular place to spend
an extra night on each end of your expedition.
