Talkeetna & Chugach Mountains

Talkeetna Mountains

The Talkeetna Mountains sit just north of the Glenn Highway in South-Central Alaska. The Talkeetna Mountains consist of approximately 10,000 square miles. The Talkeetna Mountains tend to be more hiker-friendly than her neighboring Chugach and Alaska ranges. If you like high alpine, rolling green mountains, and unnumbered streams, lakes, and meadows then the Talkeetna Mountains are for you.

Chugach Mountains

The Chugach Mountains sit North of Prince William Sound, and south of the Glenn Highway. The Chugach Mountains consist of approximately 20,000 square miles. The Chugach is full of steep granite and glacial ice. If you like being “in the mountains,” the Chugach Mountains are for you. The Chugach Mountains are more challenging and thus the routes are not quite as flexible as the Talkeetnas. But the beauty of this severe terrain is breathtaking.
